Containment Suits and History
Mark I

Created by Brainiac 5, Drake's original containment suit was perfunctory and simple. It possessed no capabilities for outward direction of energy and served only to shape and stabilize his energy form.
Drake found this suit cumbersome and intolerable. It was awkward, clumsy, and did little more than hold his energy into a vaguely humanoid shape.
Mark II

Using Brainy's designs, the scientists at the Brande Institute on Mars were able to design a new containment suit, utilizing more rigid portions and pieces, while reducing the overall cumbersomeness of the first suit. The gauntlets and boots of this suit were also designed to allow Drake to direct his energy, giving him offensive and flight capabilities. More importantly, it contained a significant number of sensors, enabling them to study his energy form.
For Drake, being able to fly and actually vent his frustrations helped continue the psychological healing process started by his friendship with Myke.
Mark III

The Mark III suit allowed for increased mobility and expanded energy control. Unfortunately, this suit was not combat rated, as noted when Drake was called upon the protect the Brande Institute from a Khund incursion looking to take advantage of the technology and unusual beings housed there. Though the suit itself was badly damaged in the fight, the scientists at the Institute were able to transfer Drake back to an older model in time to preserve his energy matrix.
The Khund government denied any involvement and blamed it on rogue pirates. Drake's heroic actions led to him being labeled another "Brande Institute success story" and earned him a nomination to the Legion.
Mark IV

The Mark IV suit is largely identical to the Mark III, save for being made of stronger materials and rated for combat. Though it still possessed several rigid pieces, it allowed for great mobility and flexibility. The Mark IV suit also possessed additional energy-venting ports, for both flight, offense, and the safe venting of excess energy to further preserve structural stability and prevent a loss of suit integrity as happened to the Mark III. It was also the first model to feature a retractable faceplate, as Drake had refined control over his energy matrix by that point.
This was the containment suit Drake was wearing when Myke died, the suit he was so proud to stand alongside the Legion with. His chance to make something out of a life that had largely been wasted.
Mark V

The Mark V is the predecessor to Drake's current containment suit. It incorporates several armored hard points (the helmet, chest plate, gloves, and boots), with a newly designed microcircuit-weave fabric specifically designed for energy containment. It also allows for increased tactile sensations.
Drake is especially fond of this suit, since it was the one he was wearing when he met Dawnstar.
Mark VI

Drake's current containment suit, it features several advantages over his previous models, including eliminating the need for external energy venting or armored hardpoints to provide structural stability (save for the helmet, due to necessary components). Instead, the entirety of the suit is constructed of the specialized microweave circuitry used in the previous suit's design and works seamlessly with Drake's powers, allowing him to channel and absorb energy without threat to the suit's integrity. It also provides additional tactile feedback, building upon the designs used in the previous model.
Drake has accepted that this version of the suit is probably about the closest he'll ever get to feeling human again.
